A brake fluid service is when we flush out all of your brake lines and hydraulic components with new fluid. Over time your brake fluid will draw moisture and that moisture is hard on your braking components. Over time that moisture will begin to turn green and grow algae. When that contaminated fluid goes through your hydraulic system which consists of your brake calipers, brake master cylinder, brake booster it can cause damage and failure of those parts. Not every car has all of these components, but they all have at least one of them. We decided to start a series that we will continue each Friday called did you know. Did you know that we opened on July 5, 2004. That when we first opened it was just Jason and a dream for him to do this own thing the way he wanted to. Since then we've grown to two more technicians and a fantastic service writer. We call them "The Crew" they're all part of our extended family and we appreciate them so much. In 14 years we've seen a lot of changes in the automotive industry and we do our best to keep up on technology. Last year we started to provide a digital inspection of your vehicle. Anytime that your vehicle starts to do something or make a different noise than normal then we're going to say it needs to be checked. Sometimes it super easy and we can give you some piece of mind just by listening to your car and other times it may take a bit of time to figure out where it's coming from. We know just how weird it can be to try and describe a noise that's coming from your vehicle, we've all been there. This depends on when your pickup is shaking. Is it at an idle? Driving down the road? Town speed? Freeway speed? When cornering? I know, so many questions. In order to properly diagnose the issue you're having it's best to be as descriptive as possible as to when it does it, where it does it, how you're driving when it does it. Now to answer at least one of those. When you're driving down the road at any speed and your pickup starts shaking it could be a U-Joint on your driveline. Your car might be squeaking due to your sway bar bushings being worn out. The sway bar bushings are just one component of your front suspension. These bushings are important as they increase your vehicles stability when you are cornering and turning. Today I'm going to tell you a little story about a car. This car is a 2002 Honda Civic and it currently has 580,116 miles on the odometer - yes you read that correctly 580,116 miles. The owners goal is to make it to the 1,000,000 mile mark. How neat is that, and really unheard of. So many people are just ready to scrap a car because it's at 100,000 miles and this one is 580,116 miles. To get to this point has taken some effort from the owner and from us to listen to her needs and concerns. She loves her car and it's been the perfect fit for her. She commutes to work each day and this gets her to where she needs to be.  Do you know how this happened? Well it's all due to regular maintenance on the car. From tune ups, fluid services, timing belts and replacing worn out parts when it's time. You should plug in your diesel engine block heater when the temperatures start to drop below 40 degrees. This depends on the type of oil that your engine requires. If your engine requires conventional or synthetic blend then you should have your oil changed every 3,000 miles. If your engine requires a full synthetic oil then you should have your oil changed every 5,000 miles. Now for every rule there is always an exception, and that will depend on your individual vehicle.  We also suggest for all diesel's no matter if it is our synthetic blend or full synthetic that you have the oil changed every 5,000 miles.  We service all makes and models. Now that summer break is over it's probably time to get your car in to have it serviced from all of your adventures. The next adventure is fall sports with the kids and I am sure it's our busiest time of the year with the most driving. Today is the first day of school for the kids. Please keep an eye out for them as they are crossing the street and trying to get to school. Leave just a few minutes early to make sure you're not running late with all the buses picking up kids.  I know one of mine is ready for sure the other two not so much. It's a big year for us as our first is a senior and will be graduating in June.
