Why do I need to change my brake fluid?

Let's delve into the details of brake fluid contamination and the importance of a brake fluid service. Brake fluid plays a critical role in ensuring the proper functioning of your vehicle's braking system. It operates within a closed hydraulic system, transmitting the force applied to the brake pedal to the brake components near the wheels. Over time, brake fluid can absorb moisture from the air, especially in humid conditions. This moisture contamination can have significant consequences for your vehicle's safety and performance. When moisture infiltrates the brake fluid, it lowers the fluid's boiling point. Under normal braking conditions, the friction generated can cause the temperature of the brake fluid to rise. If the fluid has a lower boiling point due to moisture contamination, it can lead to the formation of vapor within the brake system. Vapor is compressible, unlike brake fluid, which is designed to be incompressible. As a result, when vapor forms, it can c ... read more

Why is my brake fluid green?

Your brake fluid will become green when it is contaminated with moisture from the air. The moisture content of your brake fluid should not be above 3%. It needs to be serviced any time it is above 3%. This green color is from algae that grows in the brake fluid from the moisture. This moisture is damaging to your braking components. I was told my brake fluid is green...why??

Your brake fluid is a vital important component of your brake system. Your brake fluid flows through your calipers, wheel cylinders, master cylinder and other components. The green color is algae in your brake fluid. That means that your brake fluid is contaminated and has a high moisture content. This is very hard on your brake components and in an emergency situation it can cause your brakes to not work properly. Your brake fluid should be serviced at least once a year depending on the climate of your area.  Give us a call and let us take care of you. Happy Adventures,  Heather

What is a brake fluid service?

A brake fluid service is when we flush out all of your brake lines and hydraulic components with new fluid. Over time your brake fluid will draw moisture and that moisture is hard on your braking components. Over time that moisture will begin to turn green and grow algae. When that contaminated fluid goes through your hydraulic system which consists of your brake calipers, brake master cylinder, brake booster it can cause damage and failure of those parts. Not every car has all of these components, but they all have at least one of them. A brake fluid service is good preventative maintenance and will help to prevent future issues. Give us a call and let us take care of you. Happy Adventures,  Heather
