My brakes are making a noise

If your brakes are making a noise they need to be checked. It could be something as simple as a rock that got stuck in the backing or it could be that you are due for new brakes. Most cars have a "squealer" that will start to make noise when the brake pads are getting close to needing to be changed.  We do free brake inspections, just give us a call we'll schedule you an appointment and make sure you're safe on all your travels. Give us a call and let us take care of you 541-791-2886. Happy Adventures, Heather

Why are my brakes smoking?

If your brakes are smoking then you most likely have a brake caliper that has seized and it causing drag on that side. If this is happening please pull over immediately. It's not likely but your brakes could catch on fire. Your caliper, rotor and pads will all need to be replaced to get you back on the road again.  Give us a call and let us take care of you.  Happy Adventures,  Heather

When should I change my brakes?

When should I change my brakes?

Your car has disc brake pads in the front and in the rear either disc brake pads or brake shoes. For disc brake pads we recommend to change them between 2-3 mm, and if they're shoes then around 2mm. Your disc brake pads start around 10mm and brake shoes start at 5-6mm. Your brake pads will wear much quicker than the brake shoes.  GIve us a call and we will do a free brake inspection for you.  Happy Adventures, Heather

Why does my Ford F-150 shake when I brake?

Why does my Ford F-150 shake when I brake?

Shaking while braking usually means that you have an issue with your rotors. It's not necessary what is going on with it, but that is the typical answer to the problem. Overtime your brake pads can transfer material to the brake rotor and when this happens it can cause high and low spots on your brake rotor which in turn is where the shaking comes from when braking. It could also be that your rotors are warped - that the could have gotten overly hot at some point and the metal is no longer "true". When I brake it grinds

When I brake it grinds

Unless you're using a mortar and pestle while in your car - and really you shouldn't then you should never hear grinding in and around your car, especially when braking. A grinding noise typically means that your brake pad/shoe has worn out and you now have metal on metal for braking and number 1 that isn't safe and 2 it means that you will have to have your brake rotors along with your brake pads replaced.  We do a 52 point inspection that includes all of your brake components every single time we see your car. We make sure that you're safe to be on the road and on all your adventures. Your brake pads start around 10 mm, so when you get to 4 mm we let you know that you'll need to replace them in the future. It could be 6 months or 2 years, it just depends on your driving and the type of vehicle that you drive. They should be replaced somewhere between 2 and 3 mm, for safety purposes. Yes you still have a little life left in those pads, but I don't want to ... read more

Why is my car shaking?? Part 1

For one when is it happening? Let's just say it's happening when you are braking. This is more than likely an issue with your brake rotors. When you apply the brakes and the pad meets the rotor it transfers a small amount of material from the pad to the rotor, if this happens at an uneven rate then it can create a variation in thickness. This variation when braking can cause the shaking.  Unfortunately there are a hundred different theories and ideas. When this happens though the rotors and pads will should be replaced for the shaking to stop.  There are many other reasons for your vehicle to shake when driving. I would recommend having it looked at just to keep you safe.  Happy Travels, Heather
