Why did my car just shut off?

Why did my car just shut off? Your engine could have shut off while driving due to your timing belt breaking. Depending on the manufacturer and your engine your timing belt could be due at 60,000 miles to 90,000 miles. When your timing belt breaks your engine will die. This can also cause damage to the valves which are inside your cylinder heads. The only way to know if it has damaged your engine is to take components off the front of your engine and just replace the timing belt. We then attempt to start your engine. If it starts, then we complete the timing belt repair. If it does not then we will need to rebuild the cylinder heads.  Give us a call and let us take care of you.   Happy Adventures, Heather Our specials can be found here - Specials - J & H Automotive, Inc Ready to make an appointment … ... read more

The difference in mileage is based on manufacturer specifications. Having your timing belt replaced at the correct interval can prevent a timing belt from breaking. If your timing belt breaks, then it can cause internal damage to your engine. This can be repaired. As a note, not all engines have timing belts some of them have a timing chain instead. When is my timing belt due?

This depends on your engine. Most engines need the timing belt changed around 90,000 miles. Some engines need to be done at 60,000 miles. This is regular maintenance that is recommended by the manufacturer.  If this belt breaks, then it can cause damage to your engine and cylinder head. If that happens then the cylinder head will need to be removed, the valves inside the engine repaired or replaced then cylinder head re-assembled. This can all be prevented by regular maintenance. Give us a call and let us take care of you. Happy Adventures, Heather

When is my timing belt due to be changed?

Depending on your car and engine your timing belt should be replaced every 60,000 to 90,000 miles or every 4 to 6 years. This range depends on what the manufacturer recommends as replacement. Time/age is just as important to when your timing belt should be replaced as age. When your timing belt is old it will crack and can break due to the condition of the belt.  Give us a call and let us take care of you.  Happy Adventures,  Heather

This is a very important component of your engine and not something that should be postponed. If your timing belt were to break while you are driving it could cause a failure inside your engine.   If you have questions about timing belts and how they work give us a call and let us take care of you.  Happy Adventures, Heather
