Most off automotive batteries have a life cycle of 5-6 years. Some will keep working longer than that and others don't last that long. Some of that depends on how many times the battery died due to be drained, or an issue with the alternator. Another factor is the climate that you live in.   Batteries have all have a life span, most automotive batteries will last between 5 to 6 years without replacement. There is of course always an exception to the rule. If your battery has been drained aka lights have been left on or your alternator has caused an issue then it can dramatically shorten the life of your battery and if may have to be replaced sooner rather than later. Also if you don't drive often it can cause your battery to discharge and it can also shorten the life. You could also have an issue with the charging system in your car. If the alternator is not working properly and it's not charging your battery like it should then it could cause it to die also.  We do free electrical checks, stop by and we will check your electrical system on your vehicle. Corrosion on top of your battery could be caused from a bad connection, but most of the time the battery itself is leaking through the seal around the post. If you have it cleaned and the corrosion comes back then it's time to replace your battery.  We can do a battery check for you, battery acid needs to be handled carefully and fumes can lead to an explosion. That is your battery warning light and it should be a picture of a batter and it should be red. This sign is an indication that the battery in your car is having an issue, and may not be charging anymore.  If you spot this while driving, the first thing to do is to turn off all electrical components in your car. This includes the air conditioning, heating, stereo, interior lighting, seat heaters/coolers. Don't switch off the headlights if you are driving at night, but if you are driving during the day turn off the day time running lights.  If at all possible stop by and we will help you resolve this issue before it causes more trouble.  Happy Adventures Heather

My car won't start.   I've had this happen and it's never at a good or convenient time. It happened to me just last week in fact. I went out to go to the gym early in the morning and when I went to turn the key …. nothing, no click, to lights, nothing, nadda, zip. I ran back in the house woke Jason up and told him what had happened - ask him to fix it, took his keys and still made it to my 5am workout. I know that I am lucky to live with the mechanic (sometimes) it was just a dead battery. The boys had been in the Yukon and the key got left on.
