Taking care of you

There are times when people describe the sound that there vehicle is making and I cringe thinking it could be the engine or transmission that have had a catastrophic failure. We've seen it, it's happened. My favorite is when it's not that at all and it's simple. We want to keep people going on whatever adventure awaits them today. Whether they're headed to work, home, vacation or any where in between, we just want you to get to your destination safe and sound, with little worry about your vehicle and it's ability to get you to where you want to be.  The next time your car is due for service or if you're in need a repair give us a call and let us take care of you.  Happy Adventures,  Heather

My axle boot is torn, why should I replace it?

Your axles have rubber boots on them and over time with any piece of rubber it deteriorates and the boot will crack and tear. When this happens it's time to replace your axle. Unfortunately the boot it's self is not replaceable typically because once the boot is torn dirt and debris can get into the grease causing damage to the internal parts of your axle. It can also cause noise and after a period of time all of the grease will come out and the axle will break.  If you have front end noise give us a call or request an appointment online and we will get you back on the road.  Happy Adventures, Heather

My diesel ran out of fuel. Now what?

It has happened to everyone, you think you're good and the next thing you know you're sitting on the side of the road wondering what to do next. If your vehicle has an diesel engine nd it runs out of fuel it's a bit more complicated than if you drove a vehicle with a gas engine.  After putting fuel in it you need to cycle the key 3-6 times holding it in the on position to prime the system. After that it should start. If it's older than a 1995 it's a bit more complicated. If you have questions or need your diesel serviced or repaired, give us a call 541-791-2886 or request an appointment online at www.jhautomotiveinc.com/appointments Happy Adventures, Heather

When I turn my car jerks. Why?

When you're turning and your car jerks it could be an issue with your axle or suspension. Any time that your vehicle is making a weird noise or has started to drive differently it's best to have it looked at for your safety.  Give us a call or request an appointment on our website at www.jhautomotiveinc.com/appointments Happy Adventures, Heather

What are kingpins?

Kingpins are on larger vehicles, they hold the knuckle to the straight axle or I-beam. On smaller vehicles will have ball joints instead of the kingpin. When they wear out it will have excess play in the steering.  If you're having excess movement in your steering then it may be time to have it checked out.  Happy Adventures,  Heather

When my car turns it makes a clicking noise

When turning and in either direction and making a clicking noise it could be an issue with a piece of your steering or suspension. It's best to have any noises checked out as soon as you can to keep you safe on the roads.  Give us a call or request an appointment online. Happy Adventures,  Heather

Why does my car sound so loud?

If your car sounds loud it could be the the engine fan running constantly. When the coolant is low the engine can go into limp mode to protect it from damage, and it will turn on the engine cooling fans to keep the engine at a safe temperature.  If you're having issues then it should be looked at as soon as possible. Give us a call or request an appointment online.  Happy Adventures, Heather

When should I have my timing belt changed?

Timing belts should be done every 60-90K miles depending on your engine. When we do timing belts we also change your water pump, pulleys, thermostat, serpentine belts and the camshaft and crankshaft seals. Most of these all come in a complete kit and you know Murphy's law if you don't change it when you're there it will leak later. If you're wondering if you're due for a timing belt give us a call or request an appointment online.  Happy Adventures,  Heather

When should I have my shocks changed?

When should I have my shocks changed?

Shocks and/or struts should be replaced every 50,000 to 75,000 miles and that depends on the type of suspension that is on your car or pickup. If you're wondering if it's time to change your shocks and or struts give us a call and we will take a look for you.  Happy Adventures, Heather
