Is your diesel summer road trip ready?

Who loves a good road trip? I know I do. When you are traveling you want your vehicle operating at its full potential. Here are a few things to keep your vehicle running properly. Changing the fuel filter will help your fuel mileage. When your fuel filter is clogged it does not allow fuel to flow properly. This will cause your engine to produce less power. Your charge air cooler boots should be checked for a boost leak. If you have a boost leak this will cause your turbocharger to struggle. This will make your engine consume more fuel and not run properly. Cooling system fluid service – poor quality coolant can cause damage to your engine’s internal components from corrosion or cavitation.   Checking your engine air filter – if your engine air filter is dirty or clogged it restricts airflow. That restriction is hard on your engine and turbocharger. A diesel loves a clean air filter. Rear differential fluid service – especially when towing your rear dif ... read more

Why is it hard to fill my tank with gas?

Your vent valve on your fuel tank might be plugged. The vent valve allows air to escape from your fuel tank while capturing fuel vapors in your charcoal canister while you are filling your fuel tank. If your charcoal canister deteriorates and allows charcoal to get into your vent valve this can cause your check engine light to come on and for it to be harder to fill up your tank.  Give us a call and let us take care of you. My check engine light came on now what?

My check engine light came on now what?

My check engine light came on now what? Your check engine light came on due to a fault in one of your operating systems. Your check engine light monitors the modules and systems that keep your car running properly. If one of those systems or modules is not working properly then it will cause your check engine light to come on. A quick scan will tell you the error code, but it will not tell you why the error code happened. To know why it came on you will need to have an engine diagnostic test run. This will determine the next action that needs to be taken. Give us a call and let us take care of you. Why did my car just shut off?

Why did my car just shut off? Your engine could have shut off while driving due to your timing belt breaking. Depending on the manufacturer and your engine your timing belt could be due at 60,000 miles to 90,000 miles. When your timing belt breaks your engine will die. This can also cause damage to the valves which are inside your cylinder heads. The only way to know if it has damaged your engine is to take components off the front of your engine and just replace the timing belt. We then attempt to start your engine. If it starts, then we complete the timing belt repair. If it does not then we will need to rebuild the cylinder heads.  Give us a call and let us take care of you.   Happy Adventures, Heather Our specials can be found here - Specials - J & H Automotive, Inc Ready to make an appointment … ... read more
