If you're diesel is blowing blue smoke it typically means it's either burning oil when it shouldn't be or it's getting to much fuel in the engine and that isn't being used. It is most likely smoking because it has a leak. When oil leaks onto the exhaust it can cause smoke. While it doesn't happen all the time it could catch on fire and cause an even bigger issue. Why does my diesel smoke? When your diesel is smoking that is typically (not always) unburnt fuel. That means that smoke is raw diesel coming out the tail pipe.
