How often should my car get an oil changed?

How often should my car get an oil changed?

Your oil change interval is dependent on the type of oil that your engine uses. If you use a synthetic blend oil which is a combination of full synthetic and convention oil then we recommend you change your oil every 3,000 miles. If your engine uses full synthetic oil then we recommend you have your oil changed every 5,000 miles. Oil changes are a inexpensive way to make sure you get as much life out of your engine as possible. Having the correct oil in your engine and servicing it on a regular interval is the best way to achieve that.  Give us a call to make your next appointment for your vehicle. Why does my car make a screeching noise when I turn it on?

Why does my car make a screeching noise when I turn it on?

If your car is making a screeching noise each time you start it, it is probably do to your belt being stretched. Your belts over a period of time will stretch with wear, if your belt has been replaced recently it just needs to be re-tightened and if that doesn't work then it should be replaced under warranty. If it's been awhile since your belts have been replaced it is then probably time to replace them.  Give us a call or request an appointment online and let us take care of you.  Happy Adventures, Heather

Why does my car burn oil?

Why does my car burn oil?

If your car is burning oil it is more than likely due to the valve guide seals leaking inside the engine. Over time they wear out like all seals and at that point they will need to be replaced.  There are other reasons that your car could be burning oil, but that is the most typical reason that we see. If your car is burning oil give us a call and let us take care of you. 541-791-2886 Happy Adventures,  Heather

When should I change my brakes?

When should I change my brakes?

Your car has disc brake pads in the front and in the rear either disc brake pads or brake shoes. For disc brake pads we recommend to change them between 2-3 mm, and if they're shoes then around 2mm. Your disc brake pads start around 10mm and brake shoes start at 5-6mm. Your brake pads will wear much quicker than the brake shoes.  GIve us a call and we will do a free brake inspection for you.  Happy Adventures, Heather

High water and your car

High water and your car

We have a few safety reminders for those who are out and about during all this high water we are having.  1. If it says the road is closed, please turn around and find another way. There is a good reason it's closed. Debris could be in the road, and even worse it could have washed out part of the road and that will not be visible with the dirty water. 2. If you do have to drive through water to get home or to work please go slowly. When going through deeper puddles it can cause the cold water to splash up onto your engine and exhaust. The engine could suck in water through the air filter damaging the engine. It could crack the exhaust manifold, and it could cause your drive belts to slip, or even electrical issues.  3. Your brakes - if you have driven through water you need to use your brakes as soon as possible to dry out the pads and rotors. Gently apply them several times to get them dried out, so they will function properly. 4. Hydro-plaining - with all this ... read more

Should my car be running when I check the oil?

Should my car be running when I check the oil?

The answer is no. When your engine is running it is circulating the oil and it will show that the oil is low. You should always check your oil with the engine off. The best time to check it is when your engine is cold and has been sitting for several hours, if that is not possible then waiting for a few minutes to make sure all of the oil has drained out into your oil pan.  Give us a call and we can teach you how to check your oil properly so you don't have to worry about it, or better yet we'll just check it for you.  Happy Adventures, Heather

Why does my Ford F-150 shake when I brake?

Why does my Ford F-150 shake when I brake?

Shaking while braking usually means that you have an issue with your rotors. It's not necessary what is going on with it, but that is the typical answer to the problem. Overtime your brake pads can transfer material to the brake rotor and when this happens it can cause high and low spots on your brake rotor which in turn is where the shaking comes from when braking. It could also be that your rotors are warped - that the could have gotten overly hot at some point and the metal is no longer "true".
