Why does my car shake at idle?

Why does my car shake at idle?

Shaking at an idle is typically from either a misfire on the engine or from a motor/transmission mount that is worn out. Engine and transmission mounts take a lot of stress. Every time you run your car your engine vibrates and all of those vibrations are absorbed through your engine and transmission mounts. Over time they wear our and need to be replaced. There is no maintenance schedule for them, and they typically last for a long time.  If you're concerned about a shake in your car give us a call or request an appointment online and let us take care of you.  Happy Adventures, Heather

Happy Spring!

Happy Spring!

Spring has finally arrived in the Willamette Valley and I am more than ready for warmer weather. Every season as it's own requirements and challenges. Spring in Oregon is rain and more rain with a few sunny days sprinkled in between. It's what makes Oregon so green and beautiful so I don't mind to much.  For the kids spring break is next week and for my family that means day trips here and there, along with a lot of spring cleaning and organizing. We never really get to far from home this time of year. My car is on the schedule for an oil change this week along with an inspection to make sure those day trips are without issue and it's one less thing I need to worry about.  Give us a call to schedule your appointment for your next oil change and we'll do an inspection for you too.  Happy Adventures,  Heather

Sometimes my car won't start after I turn it off

Sometimes my car won't start after I turn it off

Modern vehicles have many sensors that can fail causing your vehicle to not start after you've turned it off, it can be an intermittent issue or it could be something that happens suddenly. Either way being stuck isn't fun and we all have busy lives and places to go. If your car is having these issues give us a call or request an appointment online and we'll get you back to where you want to be. Happy Adventures,  Heather

My car is leaking oil - what now?

My car is leaking oil - what now?

Any type of fluid leak on your vehicle should be examined to prevent a breakdown or damage to the components of your vehicle.  An oil leak from your engine could be damaging if not taken care of. Oil lubricates the internal components of your engine making sure everything is working properly. When your engine is low on oil it can cause friction and heat.  Give us a call or request an appointment online and let us take care of you. Happy Adventures, Heather

Why does my car squeak?

Why does my car squeak?

Squeaking could be from your shocks or struts that are worn and are in need of replacement. Shocks and/or struts should be replaced every 50-100K miles. Most of that depends on what you use your vehicle for and what type of suspension it has.  Give us a call or request an appointment online. Happy Adventures, Heather

My car door won't lock

My car door won't lock

The doors in your car or pickup have actuators and after a period of time they do wear out and will need to be replaced. It could also be due to a switch in the door, but most of the time when we see this problem it's the actuator that is causing the issues.  Give us a call or request an appointment online.  Happy Adventures, Heather

My car is making a gurgling noise

My car is making a gurgling noise

Whenever your car or pickup is making a noise that is not "normal" it's best to have it checked to make sure you're safe on all your travels. The gurgling noise could be coming from your cooling system. If you have a leak or air is in the system it could cause that sound.  Either way it needs to be checked for the health of your vehicle. My check engine light is on and my car is shaking and wants to die.

My check engine light is on and my car is shaking and wants to die.

If your car has these symptoms then it needs to be checked out. You could have an engine misfire and that is what caused the check engine light to come on. It would also explain the shaking and your car wanting to die. We would need to diagnose why the check engine light is on and what is causing the shaking. The misfire could be from spark plugs or injectors.  If you're having issues give us a call and let us take care of you.  Happy Adventures, Heather

My car has an exhaust leak. Why?

My car has an exhaust leak. Why?

Typically if you have an exhaust leak in your engine compartment then it is from your exhaust manifold. Over time the bolts get weak and they can break. When this happens it allows the exhaust to escape from the manifold and it can cause issues with your engine.  If you think your vehicle has an exhaust leak give us a call at 541-791-2886 or request an appointment online at jhautomotiveinc.com/appointments Happy Adventures Heather

My diesel engine won't start when it's cold. Why?

My diesel engine won't start when it's cold. Why?

It could be your glow plugs that are causing the problem. They do wear out over a period of time and need to be replaced. Unfortunately they do not have a maintenance interval and so it is solely dependent on how they are functioning. We do recommend that when you replace your glow plugs to have all of them replaced.  If your diesel engine is having issues starting give us a call at 541-791-2886 or request an appointment online and let us take care of you.  Happy Adventures, Heather
