Once upon a time there were only a couple types of transmission fluid. Now there are more than you can imagine. Transmissions have changed they went from very basic to computer controlled and high tech. These transmissions if the wrong type of fluid is put into them can cause damage and possible failure. With some of today's modern transmissions this can become an expensive mistake very quickly. Your owners manual may have the correct specification for your transmission, but not always.
