This all depends on you and your driving. Do you go over the pass frequently? Are you driving in snow and ice on a regular basis? Do you live on a hill that gets icy? It doesn't even matter what you drive, it all depends on where you drive and the conditions. Besides a studded tire there are also stud less snow tires that have plenty of grip and work excellent.
