This could be from any fluid that goes into your vehicle. If it's dark then it's most likely engine oil or gear oil, if it's a reddish color then it's probably transmission fluid, green or orange then it's probably coolant. All of these fluids are important and the leak needs to be addressed. When your vehicle is low on fluid it can not operate the way that it should and it can cause long term damage to the components.
