If your car is overheating then you may have an issue with your cooling fans. Your cooling fans come on when your engine needs to be cooled down, if they're not coming on it can cause an overheating issue. Many times you won't realize you have a cooling fan issue when you're driving since the wind will help to cool your engine down. You will typically notice this at a long stop or when idling.
