My check engine light came on and my cruise control stopped working

When your check engine light comes on it will disable other functions in your vehicle including the cruise control. It does this as a safety feature. Your check engine light can come on for numerous reasons, it will disable your cruise control to prevent emissions damage and to get your attention so you will have it repaired.
