Why does my diesel blow blue smoke?

If you're diesel is blowing blue smoke it typically means it's either burning oil when it shouldn't be or it's getting to much fuel in the engine and that isn't being used. Either of these issues can cause poor fuel mileage and your engine to not run as it should.
