How do I know my flywheel is broken?
Posted on 10/25/2024
A broken flywheel can be a serious issue that can lead to engine damage if not addressed promptly. Here are some common symptoms to watch out for:
Excessive Engine Noise:
- Grinding or squealing sounds: These noises are often indicative of a damaged flywheel.
- Knocking or rattling: If you hear these sounds, it could be a sign of the flywheel scraping against other engine components.
Vibration:
- Shaking or trembling: A broken flywheel can cause your car to vibrate excessively, especially when idling or accelerating.
- Steering wheel vibration: If your steering wheel is vibrating, it could be a sign of a problem with the flywheel or other drive train components.
Difficulty Starting:
- Slow cranking: Your engine may take longer to start or crank slowly.
- No start: In severe cases, a broken flywheel can prevent your car from starting altogether.
Engine Misfire:
- Rough idle: Your engine may idle unevenly or misfire.
- Loss of power: You may notice a decrease in power or acceleration.
Check Engine Light:
- Illuminated warning light: A check engine light can sometimes indicate a problem with the flywheel or other drive train components.
