How do I know my flywheel is broken?

A broken flywheel can be a serious issue that can lead to engine damage if not addressed promptly. Here are some common symptoms to watch out for:


Excessive Engine Noise:

  • Grinding or squealing sounds: These noises are often indicative of a damaged flywheel.
  • Knocking or rattling: If you hear these sounds, it could be a sign of the flywheel scraping against other engine components.


Vibration:

  • Shaking or trembling: A broken flywheel can cause your car to vibrate excessively, especially when idling or accelerating.
  • Steering wheel vibration: If your steering wheel is vibrating, it could be a sign of a problem with the flywheel or other drive train components.


Difficulty Starting:

  • Slow cranking: Your engine may take longer to start or crank slowly.
  • No start: In severe cases, a broken flywheel can prevent your car from starting altogether.


Engine Misfire:

  • Rough idle: Your engine may idle unevenly or misfire.
  • Loss of power: You may notice a decrease in power or acceleration.


Check Engine Light:

  • Illuminated warning light: A check engine light can sometimes indicate a problem with the flywheel or other drive train components.
