Your torque converter is a fluid coupler that connects your engine to your automatic transmission. This is not found in manual transmissions. It provides several functions one being that is allows the engine to keep running when you come to a stop. Another is that it increases the amount of torque that your engine sends to your transmission during acceleration and the last but not least it has a clutch that will lock the engine and transmission together at highway speeds to increase fuel efficiency and reduce transmission fluid temperatures.
