Alternator should not make noise

One of the reasons that your alternator could be making noise due to a failing decoupler pulley bearing. This bearing can cause a variety of different sounds like loud howling, chirping at idle, and even a grinding noise depending on the situation. It can cause the alternator to stop charging and if it seizes then it can break the serpentine belt. If this were to happen then  it can potentially cause damage to more components other than just the alternator. It could lead to a lack of power steering turning it into a dangerous safety problem.

If you hear any abnormal noises we recommend getting them check out right away to keep you and your vehicle safe on the road. Give us a call and let us take care of you.

Heather
