Why did my car battery die

Battery issues?

Your car battery is essential for starting your vehicle. They don't last forever and can unexpectedly die, leaving you stranded. Here are some common reasons why your car battery might have given up the ghost:

  • Car batteries typically have a lifespan of 3-5 years.
  • Hot and cold weather can impact battery performance.
  • High temperatures accelerate the chemical reactions within the battery, leading to faster degradation.
  • Cold weather slows down chemical reactions, making it harder for the battery to generate enough power to start the engine.
  • Even when your car is turned off, small electrical draws can slowly drain the battery. These can include:
  • Corrosion on the battery terminals can prevent a good electrical connection. This can impede both charging and starting.
  • Frequent short trips do not give the battery enough time to fully recharge, especially in colder climates.
  • Your battery tested regularly, especially if you live in a climate with extreme temperatures. This can be done with your oil changes.
  • If you primarily drive short distances, take your car on longer trips occasionally to allow the battery to fully recharge.
