Stay Safe on the Road This Season

Preparing Your Vehicle for Winter

  • Tire Check:
  • Consider winter tires for optimal traction on snow and ice.
  • Ensure all-season tires have enough tread depth and are properly inflated.

  • Cold weather can impact battery performance. Have your battery tested and consider replacement if it's over three years old.

  • Replace worn wiper blades and use winter-grade washer fluid to prevent freezing.

  • Ensure proper coolant levels and a suitable antifreeze mixture.

  • Emergency Kit: Pack a well-stocked emergency kit including:
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Warm clothing and blankets
  • Jumper cables
  • Snow shovel/brush
  • Traction aids (sand, kitty litter)
  • Non-perishable snacks and water

Driving Safely in Winter Conditions:

  • Reduce speed and increase stopping distance on slippery roads.
  • Avoid sudden acceleration and braking to maintain control.
  • Use lower gears for better traction on inclines. Avoid using cruise control on slippery roads.
  • If your vehicle skids, steer gently in the direction you want to go. Avoid slamming on the brakes.
  • Check weather and road conditions before you go. Stick to main roads and inform someone of your travel plans.
