Our temperatures are typically moderate, but we do encounter a few stretches of cold weather each year. Snowfall is a fleeting guest. Venture eastward across the mountains to the high desert of central Oregon, and you'll find even colder winters, considerable snowfall, and bone-chilling temperatures. Yet, the azure skies and sunny days compensate for the frigidity. As you proceed further east, the pattern persists – more snow, more cold, and more blue skies. In southern Oregon, expect wintry conditions with cold, wet spells, more snow, added wind, and persistent fog. In essence, a bit of everything.

2. **Roadside Emergency Kit:** This comprehensive kit includes flares, road markers, jumper cables, and other vital tools to get your vehicle back in action.
3. **Flashlight:** Given the dark mornings and early evenings, especially when navigating mountainous terrain, a reliable flashlight is a must. It serves both as your guide and a signal to other drivers.
4. **Water:** Always carry at least one bottle of water per person in your vehicle. Don't forget to account for any furry friends traveling with you.
5. **Blankets:** Blankets are an indispensable asset, ready to keep you warm when you're low on fuel or your engine won't start. When my children were little, this was an easy task. As they've grown into teens, I now keep a ready bag in the trunk.
6. **Snacks:** Being stranded is challenge enough; hunger makes it tougher. A few non-perishable snacks, like granola bars, trail mix, jerky, or similar items, will help keep those hunger pangs at bay until you're back on the road.
