Batteries have all have a life span, most automotive batteries will last between 5 to 6 years without replacement. There is of course always an exception to the rule. If your battery has been drained aka lights have been left on or your alternator has caused an issue then it can dramatically shorten the life of your battery and if may have to be replaced sooner rather than later. Also if you don't drive often it can cause your battery to discharge and it can also shorten the life.
You could also have an issue with the charging system in your car. If the alternator is not working properly and it's not charging your battery like it should then it could cause it to die also.
