Why does my diesel truck blow white smoke?

Why does my diesel truck blow white smoke?

Why does my diesel truck blow white smoke? Your pickup could be blowing white smoke for a couple of reasons. One reason is that the engine has moisture in the exhaust.  The other reason is that the cylinder head gasket is leaking. Either one would need to be checked to know what is going on with your engine. Give us a call and let us take care of you. Why does my car squeak when turning?

This can depend on a few different things. Is it on a long corner? Parking lot? Driveway? All of these can affect different parts of your steering and suspension system differently. Let’s just say that your car is squeaking while you are pulling into your driveway. This would typically be a slow hard turn.  It could be you have an issue with one of your control arms or bushings. These bushings are made of rubber and over time that rubber will break down and stop working properly. Your vehicle will need to be inspected to find the squeak. Overheating?

Why does my car overheat? Your car may be overheating due to one of your cooling system components failing. If your water pump stops functioning properly it will cause your engine to overheat. The water pump will need to be replaced if it is not working properly. If your engine overheats then it can cause damage to other components. We recommend pulling over to the side of the road where it is safe and turning off your engine if it is overheating. This will hopefully prevent any damage to your engine. Why does my car smell like gas?

Typically, when we see a car and it smells like gas it is due to a fuel vapor leak. This could be from any of the emissions components on the fuel tank or engine. They put gas in my diesel tank. What now??

First off please do not start your vehicle. Do not turn on the key. Do not start the engine. This is very important. When you turn on your key it will turn on the fuel pump. This will cause the contaminated fuel to go into your fuel system. This will cause damage and extensive repairs. When the key stays off, we can clean out the fuel tank and change the fuel filter. Your vehicle will need to be towed and the proper repairs completed. Give us a call and let us take care of you. When should I change my fuel filter?

When should I change my fuel filter? Your fuel filter filters out impurities in your fuel system. Over time dirt, debris and water can enter your tank. Water, dirt, and debris are hard on your fuel system.  They can shorten the life of your fuel system components and cause them to fail. To keep your fuel system working properly and to make sure you get all of the life out of your components we recommend the replacement of your fuel filter every 15,000 miles. Give us a call and let us take care of you. Why did a rodent chew my wiring?

With all the rain lately, it has brought many animals closer and some into our garages. They are looking for a warm place and your engine is just what they are looking for. The wiring that connects your electrical components is coated to protect the wire from damage. The coating that is applied to the wiring is attractive to them and they think it is tasty too. Unfortunately, when they start chewing on the coating many times, they will damage the wire under the coating. This will cause electrical issues and run ability issues for your vehicle. The wiring will need to be repaired to fix the electrical issues. To help keep them away, I would try a couple of dryer sheets. They do not like the smell and it should help to keep them away from your wiring. Give us a call and let us take care of you. Why are my brakes getting hot?

Your brakes may be getting hot due to a disc brake caliper dragging or sticking. When your disc brake caliper starts to drag or stick then it will cause your brakes to be applied all the time. The disc brake caliper has an internal piston. This will cause your brakes to get hot. Over time it will cause your brake pads to wear prematurely and uneven wear. You may notice that your fuel mileage has gone down as well. It will also cause your fuel mileage to go down. It will also cause damage to other components if it is not repaired. What is DEF Fluid?

DEF is urea that helps clean the exhaust before it's released from your vehicle. DEF stands for diesel exhaust fluid just in case you were wondering. If your vehicle has a DEF system on it, then it's required for the engine to run correctly. If your DEF system fails, then it will put your pickup into limp mode. This is when you will have a lack of power and eventually, your pickup will stop running.   Depending on the manufacturer of your vehicle will depend on the type of DEF fluid that you need. 2012 was the last year that it wasn't federally mandated that you had to have a DEF system on your diesel vehicle. Ford and Chevy both went to the DEF systems before it was mandated, and Dodge switched in 2013. If you have questions give us a call at 541-791-2886 and we would be happy to help.
