Why is it important to change my brake fluid

The braking system stands as a pillar of safety in your vehicle's architecture. While the routine of oil changes and tire pressure checks is almost religiously followed by many, the critical practice of changing brake fluid frequently gets sidelined.    Moisture in the brake fluid is inevitable due to its nature, which means it naturally draws moisture from the air. This moisture infiltrates the braking system, leading to corrosion and potentially diminishing your brakes' effectiveness. As the water content rises, the brake fluid's boiling point drops, a concerning issue under high-stress driving conditions. Brake fluid is tasked with performing under the high heat generated during intense braking or extended periods of use. Should the fluid's boiling point be surpassed, brake fade may occur. This phenomenon reduces braking efficiency as vapor forms within the brake lines. Regularly changing the brake fluid ensures it remains at an ideal boiling point, safeg ... read more

Why should I change my differential fluid?

Why should I change my differential fluid?

If you drive a pickup and it's 4WD then you will have a front and rear differential. The fluid should be changed every 30,000 to 50,000 miles and that depends on where you tow and the conditions that you drive in. It doesn't have to be changed as often as engine oil, but it's just as important to service it on a regular basis.  If you're wondering if you need to have your differentials serviced give us a call and we will check them for you and let you know.  Happy Adventures, Heather

When should I change my differential fluid?

When should I change my differential fluid?

The fluid in your front and rear differentials is a specific gear oil and should be changed every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. The range really depends on how heavy your vehicle is and if and/or how much you tow with your vehicle. The first service should be somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 miles. When the gears are new they give off more metal.  Servicing the fluids in your vehicle more often is never a bad thing. The fluid does break down over time and a fluid service is usually good insurance for the gear and drivetrain of your vehicle to last for years to come.  Give us a call or request an appointment online and we will make sure you're ready for all your travels. Shop Small Business Saturday

Shop Small Business Saturday

I know today is black Friday and that itself has become a national holiday, but with all of that please remember to shop at the local stores in your town. They are small businesses trying to provide for there families, they work long hours with very little reward other than to know they are making a difference in the lives of the people who they employ and to there children. We are a small business too and sometimes people forget.  Please remember to shop small and support that local family who is doing their best to make a difference. Happy Adventures,  Heather

Do I need to change my brake fluid?

Do I need to change my brake fluid?

The answer is yes, really that shouldn't surprise you much. When your brake fluid becomes contaminated with water - it draws moisture out of the air - it can cause your brake components to rust from the inside out. It will break down your seals, master cylinder, calipers and wheel cylinders then you will have a leak or a seized caliper. Along with the rust issue the fluid also has a lower boiling point so when you're doing a lot of braking it can cause your brakes to not work as well as they should.  When you live in high humidity or an area that gets a lot of rain you can expect to need to change your brake fluid more often than if you lived in a drier climate.  You can make your appointment here and we will see if you are in need of a brake fluid service.  www.jhautomotiveinc.com/appointments/ Happy Adventures Heather
